Prof. Dr. Ziya Selçuk

Born in 1961 in Ankara, he graduated from Ankara Atatürk High School. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Psychological Services in Education and Psychological Counselling and Guidance from Ankara University and her doctorate degree from Hacettepe University. He worked as a counsellor for two years for disabled children at the Ministry of National Education. Afterwards, he worked as a lecturer and administrator in higher education institutions for 23 years. Between 2003 and 2006, he served as the chairman of the Board of Education, and together with his team, he carried out the 2004 curriculum transformation study. He served as vice chairman and member of the board of trustees in various universities, chairman and member in non-governmental organisations related to education politics, member of TUBITAK-SOBAG Executive Board, member of the Board of Directors of the Chess Federation, Chairman of the Education Board of the Volleyball Federation, Director of the PDR Association, columnist, project expert in international organisations. He took part in the establishment and design works of some higher education and K-12 institutions. In addition, he was a member of the board of directors of the Turkish Intelligence Foundation, editor of academic journals, and many other similar duties. He has published books and more than a hundred articles on guidance, behaviour observation, communication, learning, parenting and temperament. He served as the Minister of National Education for three years between 2018-2021. Dr. Selçuk, who has focused only on children and childhood throughout his professional life, is currently the president of the Teachers First Foundation and continues his research, book and social responsibility activities.
